End of Year Reflections

Having just celebrated 2 years as an official business this fall, it’s time to celebrate! Being a business owner has its challenges, and I find myself making big and small sacrifices to both my business and personal life because of it. I’m also learning I get in my own way sometimes because I can be my own worst enemy. My vision for our business feels so far away when we’re making progress, it’s the obstacles that can feel so big and defeating sometimes.

As I truly reflect on where my dream started for creating an adaptive swim-based business, I see the progress that has been made. I have local support of families and small businesses, feeling true joy swimming with clients and observing client & family progress, consistent and growing swim lessons, national connections with other likeminded professionals, increased knowledge, patience & creativity, and more people interested in adaptive swimming. This summer, I created a water safety training for other Behavior Analysts to help increase awareness and support as they tend to largely work with autistic and or neurodivergent individuals. This fall we completed a comprehensive resource called the Water Safety Blueprint that includes education, assessment and an action plan. I recently connected with Autism Society of America and looking forward to collaborations and excited for the opportunity of coaching on the local Special Olympics team this upcoming spring. We have a couple of other projects we are undergoing and will hopefully be able to share the fruit of that labor in future months.

I have a great husband, best friend and business partner by my side who values connection, community and making sure we maintain quality services. He has supported and added to the vision of what we can be and do to help increase the quality of life and health of families we encounter. We were excited to start a monthly newsletter, but with all the work that goes into a healthy personal and business lifestyle, we have found ourselves busy! With that, we have decided to change our monthly newsletter to a quarterly newsletter so we can continue to be excited to share updates and quality information regarding health, behavior and water safety.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or interest in consulting and or collaborating around community lessons!

We believe inclusion matters. We believe anyone can make progress in and around the water with the right teaching strategies. We believe through education; more families can be included in water-based environments and will be more equipped to prevent drownings.
